Welding and jointing
Plan the joints before installation begins.
Butt welding and electrofusion are the two welding methods used with Geberit HDPE. Both create permanent joints, but require different equipment and preparation. Selection depends on access, prefabrication and the exact components to be joined.
Butt welding: maintain alignment
Prepared pipe ends are heated against a welding plate and joined using the procedure specified for the equipment and system. This method is useful for workshop prefabrication. Alignment, cleanliness, end preparation and compliance with heating, joining and cooling stages determine the quality of the finished joint.
Electrofusion: prepare the contact surfaces
A compatible electrofusion coupling is powered by the welding unit specified for that product. Preparation includes cutting, checking pipe geometry, marking insertion depth and treating surfaces as instructed. Keep the assembly still throughout the prescribed welding and cooling periods. A completed-cycle indicator does not replace preparation and inspection.
Choose compatible equipment
Geberit offers cutting and preparation tools, electrofusion units and butt-welding machines. Check the diameter range, coupling type, available power supply and clamping accessories. A machine that accepts a certain diameter does not necessarily support every fitting in that size. Match the equipment documentation to the actual product reference.
Inspect before concealing the network
Identify the joints and keep the inspection information required for the project. Check connections, alignment, supports and access, then perform the specified tests before closing walls or pouring concrete. Welding parameters and cooling times must come from the instructions for the equipment and fitting actually being used.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a universal welding time?
No. Settings vary with the tool, diameter, fitting and procedure. Do not reuse a time specified for another product without verification.
Can the joint be moved when the cycle ends?
Observe the cooling period and handling conditions in the instructions. Keeping the assembly still for the specified stages is part of making the joint.
Must everything be assembled on site?
No. Runs can be prefabricated when measurements are reliable. Plan transport, site connections, tolerances and installation order before preparing the assemblies.
