The illuminated mirror has become central to the washbasin area. However, a decorative halo around the glass does not always serve the same purpose as light directed at the face. Start with your routines: shaving, make-up, skincare or a quick check before leaving. The mirror’s specification should address those uses.
01
Observe where the light goes
Lighting behind a mirror mainly illuminates the wall and emphasises its volume. Front lighting can illuminate the face differently. The result depends on the model, diffusion and position, not simply the presence of LEDs.
Try the mirror in conditions close to those in the room. Look at shadows beneath the eyes and chin, then move slightly. The aim is comfortable light over the useful area without a distracting bright point in your field of view.
02
Coordinate light colour
When several lights operate together, compare their colour temperatures. A mirror and ceiling light that differ greatly can make materials and skin tones appear inconsistent. Request each reference’s specifications before deciding.
If the product offers multiple settings, check how they are controlled and whether settings are remembered. Do not assume a feature seen in one range is present throughout the brand. Simple, accessible controls matter more than a long list of rarely used options.
03
Add magnification when the task warrants it
An articulated magnifying mirror complements the main mirror for certain tasks. NOFER offers the Vanity family, including reference 08006.B with an extending arm, magnification and LED lighting according to its documentation. Check the exact sheet when selecting.
Draw the mirror both extended and folded. It should not hit the tap or furniture, and its arm must reach a useful position. Test the viewing distance: magnification changes how the mirror is used and does not replace a general mirror.
04
Plan power and maintenance
Have a professional validate the electrical position and required protection for the room and the rules applicable to the project. Also check access to the power supply and serviceable parts. An attractive installation must not prevent maintenance.
At EDIFIS, compare NOFER or Gedy mirrors and accessories with your basin layout. Confirm dimensions, functions and finish for the ordered reference. Finally, plan cleaning suitable for the glass, frame and electrical parts.
Before you decide
- Distinguish a decorative halo from useful light.
- Compare lighting specifications.
- Test the magnifying mirror extended.
- Plan power and maintenance access.
The essentials
Your questions, our guidance.
Can an LED mirror light the entire bathroom?
Not necessarily. Its output, distribution and the room layout determine whether additional lighting is needed.
Should you choose the strongest magnification?
No. Try the viewing distance and field; the best choice suits the task and the user’s comfort.
