Bathroom

A quieter bathroom: address noise from pipework.

Flow, vibrations and partitions: understand noise sources and prepare an acoustic solution with Geberit systems.

Bathroom comfort is also felt from the adjoining bedroom. Audible drainage or vibration may become more intrusive than expected when the home is quiet. In current residential and hotel projects, acoustics therefore deserve a place in pipework design alongside space requirements and maintenance.

01

Distinguish the situations producing noise

Note when the noise occurs: during filling, draining, opening a tap or use on another floor. This helps the professional distinguish supply, drainage and structure-borne transmission. A recording can supplement observations without replacing necessary measurements.

Also identify the rooms where the noise is heard. A problem perceived in a bedroom may follow several paths: partition, shaft, fixing or floor penetration. Changing one component without studying these links may leave part of the problem unresolved.

02

Select a system and its associated components

Geberit Silent-db20 is a drainage system designed for acoustic requirements. It differs from standard Geberit PE. Selection should account for pipes, fittings, supports and intended installation details, rather than only the name printed on the pipe.

Current Geberit documents also describe Silent-db20 SuperTube solutions for certain building projects. Their relevance should be assessed at network scale. A stack technology is not automatically appropriate to every bathroom renovation.

03

Detail connections with the building carefully

A pipe may transfer vibration through its supports or contact with partitions. Treating these interfaces is part of the design. Specify penetrations, brackets and shaft details for the selected system.

Partition construction and pipe route also affect the result. In an en-suite, do not choose the pipe route solely because it saves a few centimetres. Bedroom comfort should form part of the decision.

04

Define an expectation that can be checked

For new construction or major renovation, formulate acoustic expectations with the relevant professionals. A figure from a manufacturer test describes a particular setup; it does not alone guarantee the outcome on a different site.

EDIFIS can prepare Geberit system documents for the study. Keep plans, component schedules and validated details, then check the intended uses at handover. This connects product choice with desired comfort without promising absolute silence.

Before you decide

  1. Describe when and where noise occurs.
  2. Distinguish supply from drainage.
  3. Choose components from a coherent system.
  4. Check interfaces with partitions.

The essentials

Your questions, our guidance.

Will an acoustic pipe make the bathroom silent on its own?

No. The result also depends on fittings, supports, partitions, penetrations and installation conditions.

Are Geberit PE and Silent-db20 the same product?

No. They are separate systems. Their selection should suit the network and project requirements.
