Compact toilets: measure the space you actually gain.

Bowl projection, lining thickness and door swing: how to compare a compact toilet for a small bathroom.

In a renovation, a few centimetres can determine comfort. However, a bowl described as compact does not alone guarantee the same saving within the room. The finished depth also includes the installation system and its lining. Here is a way to compare Geberit solutions against the actual dimensions of your home.

01

Measure from the finished wall

The bowl’s projection is measured from the plane to which it is fixed. If that plane moves forward to accommodate a frame, the ceramic’s apparent saving can shrink. Draw the distance between the existing wall and the front edge of the completed toilet.

Include the layers actually specified: frame, boards, adhesive and finish. The cistern’s nominal depth is not the depth of the entire lining. Have the installer confirm the section before selecting the bowl from a catalogue image alone.

02

Test the door and everyday movements

Plot the door’s swing, then the position of a person in front of the WC. Add the vanity, drawers and accessories. A layout that looks open when everything is closed can become cramped when several fixtures are used together.

You can mark the volumes on the floor with adhesive tape. This simple exercise does not replace a technical drawing, but quickly reveals restricted circulation. Compare several layouts before automatically making every product smaller.

03

Preserve sitting comfort

The word compact describes size, not comfort for every user. Try the seat shape and check leg position. The appropriate height also depends on the occupants and the project’s needs; agree it with the relevant professionals.

Examine the matching seat, its opening movement and access to the flush control. A shelf that is too low or projects too far may obstruct the lid. Show these relationships on the same section as the bowl and frame.

04

Compare complete assemblies

Ask EDIFIS for two dimensioned options including bowl, seat, frame and compatible flush plate. Compare Geberit families through precise references. A Sigma or Alpha plate must be selected for the corresponding cistern.

Keep a table showing finished projection, clearance in front of the seat and maintenance access. This turns the search for a “small toilet” into a measurable decision. It avoids gaining a little floor space at the expense of comfort.

Before you decide

  1. Measure the existing and finished wall positions.
  2. Draw the door and drawers open.
  3. Try the seat and flush control.
  4. Compare complete product references.

The essentials

Your questions, our guidance.

Does a shallow cistern guarantee a compact installation?

No. The installation system, lining and bowl requirements must all be taken into account.

Should you always choose the shortest bowl?

No. Choose the option that best balances circulation, seating and cleaning within your layout.
