A freestanding bath can become a bathroom’s visual centre. Its comfort nevertheless depends on what the mood photograph shows least: the route behind the tub, product storage and access to the waste. Before settling on a shape, draw its surroundings to scale and test them against daily movements.
01
Measure the space beyond the tub
A bath’s external dimensions are not its entire working footprint. You need to enter, leave, circulate and clean around it. Put doors, windows, furniture and other fixtures on a complete plan.
A bath near a wall may create a gap that is difficult to reach into. Compare a genuinely open arrangement with a back-to-wall solution designed for that relationship. A few leftover centimetres do not automatically create useful space.
02
Position the tap for the bather
Floorstanding, wall-mounted and deck-mounted taps require different conditions. Check spout reach, access to the control and the hand shower position where one is specified. Follow both the bath and tap technical sheets.
Simulate the position used to enter the bath. An attractive tap should become neither an obstacle nor an improvised support. Prepare supplies before finishing while retaining the access required by the system.
03
Anticipate drainage, floor and delivery
The installer must check the waste connection, available fall and access method for future work. The assembly’s weight in use must also be considered with building professionals where the project requires it.
Check the delivery route to the room: doorways, turns, stairs and handling possibilities. A bath that fits the plan may still be difficult to bring in. Complete this check before ordering, not on installation day.
04
Create a bathing area that is easy to live with
Provide a stable place for products and a towel reachable when leaving the bath. Choose surfaces suited to the intended use and an appropriate care routine. Lighting should create a pleasant atmosphere while keeping obstacles visible.
EDIFIS’s bathing range brings together several families, including freestanding, acrylic and hydromassage models. Confirm the appropriate reference, contents and installation conditions. The right choice combines the tub’s character with a workable installation.
Before you decide
- Draw the routes around the tub.
- Test access to the tap and towel.
- Validate the waste and maintenance access.
- Check delivery and handling.
The essentials
Your questions, our guidance.
Must a freestanding bath stand in the centre of the room?
No. Its position depends on its shape and useful access. An off-centre location may organise circulation better.
Does a freestanding bath always make cleaning easier?
No. Very narrow surrounding gaps can make cleaning harder. The layout matters as much as the tub’s design.
