Guest toilets offer scope for expression on a small scale. A carefully treated wall, a well-proportioned handrinse basin and a considered flush plate may be enough. The space must still be comfortable: decoration should not complicate circulation, cleaning or access to equipment.
01
Compose the view from the door
Identify what is seen on entering: the basin, the toilet wall or a mirror. Give that view one main point of interest. Patterned tiles can work on the back wall while the side walls remain quieter.
If the room is narrow, compare several pattern scales on a complete elevation. A large motif can be awkwardly cut around the frame lining; a smaller motif can become dense. The right answer depends on actual dimensions.
02
Refine the basin and tap pairing
A small washbasin does not automatically accept any small tap. Check spout reach, jet direction and space for hands. A control that is difficult to grip beside a wall quickly becomes inconvenient in a room often used briefly.
A wall-mounted tap can clear the top, but its position must be drawn with the selected basin. Also check door opening and access to the towel holder. These details create much more comfort than decoration that merely photographs well.
03
Make the Geberit plate a decorative choice
The plate is often one of the few visible objects on the toilet wall. It can repeat the basin’s metal or remain discreet against the background colour. On a busy pattern, a calm surface avoids adding a competing design.
First select a family compatible with the cistern, then the shape and finish. Sigma40, Sigma50 and Sigma70 address different aesthetic intentions. They do not replace an Alpha plate simply because they share the Geberit brand.
04
Plan for the room’s everyday life
Pleasant lighting around the mirror enhances materials and supports use. Avoid a light or shelf that obstructs plate removal. Also provide accessible storage for consumables to keep the composition tidy.
In a space used by visitors, readable controls matter. Keep functions obvious and objects within reach. Successful guest toilets feel polished precisely because every movement remains straightforward.
Before you decide
- Choose a main view from the entrance.
- Check the jet within the basin.
- Confirm the Geberit cistern family.
- Maintain access to the plate and storage.
The essentials
Your questions, our guidance.
Can dark tiles be used in guest toilets?
Yes, if lighting and contrast keep the equipment readable. Also compare care requirements for the selected finishes.
Must tap and plate match exactly?
No. A precise metal echo works, but a discreet tone-on-tone plate can also balance a more expressive tap.
