A flush plate is a small element with a strong presence in the interior. Choose it alongside tiles, accessories and tapware, but one check comes first: compatibility with the installed cistern. Two plates that look alike are not necessarily interchangeable.
01
Identify the cistern before comparing colours
Record the cistern reference, family and, for a renovation, any information about its year. A photograph of the existing plate can help, but does not always replace identifying the mechanism. Keep original documents when available.
Geberit distinguishes several systems. Sigma plates are designed for corresponding Sigma cisterns; a plate from another family is not an automatic replacement. For Alpha too, request confirmation based on the complete cistern and plate references.
02
Coordinate plate, joints and axes
On a tiled wall, plate position matters as much as colour. Draw it in the tile layout to avoid an awkward meeting with a joint or narrow cut. However, check the position required by the system before moving an axis purely for appearance.
A contrasting plate becomes a graphic element. A pale plate on a pale wall recedes. In a compact WC area, this choice can guide perception of the entire wall. Also compare button shapes with the rest of the room.
03
Distinguish polished, matt and brushed
Polished chrome clearly reflects its surroundings. Matt finishes diffuse light, while brushed surfaces have a directional texture. A photograph against white may soften these differences; observe a sample or several consistent views.
To coordinate a plate with tapware, compare the actual products. Similar descriptions from different manufacturers do not guarantee the same shade. An intentional contrast is often preferable to a near-match that is visibly imperfect.
04
Preserve access and keep references
The control area contributes to the access provided for cistern servicing. Its finish must follow the system’s requirements. Avoid furniture or decorative elements preventing necessary removal.
At handover, photograph the assembly and archive its references. For a multi-home development, pair each plate with its cistern type in the ordering schedule. This small discipline simplifies replacements and limits confusion between families.
Before you decide
- Identify the cistern family and reference.
- Confirm the compatible plate.
- Check its position in the tile layout.
- Compare finishes in the actual light.
The essentials
Your questions, our guidance.
Can a Sigma plate be installed on any Geberit cistern?
No. The plate must suit the cistern system. A shared brand is insufficient to establish compatibility.
Can a plate be replaced without retiling?
Often, if the new model is compatible with the existing system and mounting. Have the cistern identified and required parts checked before purchase.
