Hotel bathrooms: design the experience and plan operation.

Taps, Geberit, surfaces and maintenance: useful decisions for architects designing hotel bathrooms.

A hotel bathroom must appeal within seconds and remain easy to use every day. Guests discover the controls; staff clean, inspect and maintain. The project must serve both perspectives without losing its identity.

01

Make use immediately understandable

Shower controls, mixer opening directions and accessory positions should be clear. A very minimal composition can confuse if functions are not obvious. Test movements with someone unfamiliar with the project.

Provide space for ordinary belongings: washbag, towels and toiletries. The basin counter should not be entirely occupied by the bowl. A suite’s beauty also relies on practical generosity.

02

Choose finishes with the operator

A tap finish implies a care procedure. Ask which products will be used and how often. Compare instructions for THG Paris, Deante or other selected references without assuming one finish behaves like another.

For surfaces, assess intended areas and cleaning ease. Relief can give a wall strong identity, but place it carefully. A decorative surface beyond direct splashes may offer a better compromise than repeating it throughout the room.

03

Standardise what helps maintenance

Rooms can share some technical references while having different atmospheres. This reduces document confusion and helps follow-up. Consider it without assuming compatibility between different systems.

For Geberit WCs, match every cistern family with its plates and document the assemblies. Retain concealed-body and visible-part references too. A clear schedule is an operational resource, not only a purchasing tool.

04

Approve a sample room before repetition

Where the programme permits, a sample room helps check lighting, reflections, controls, splashes and cleaning access. Invite relevant teams to assess real use. A problem discreet on paper can become obvious in practice.

Then freeze references, finishes and supply conditions. Establish a substitution approval procedure. With EDIFIS, prepare enquiries from quantities, programme and drawings by room type to compare complete solutions.

Before you decide

  1. Test whether controls are understood.
  2. Approve cleaning products.
  3. Organise references by room type.
  4. Freeze choices after the sample room.

The essentials

Your questions, our guidance.

Must one brand be used throughout the hotel?

Not necessarily. Coherent assemblies and clear references matter more than uniform branding.

Should maintenance influence decorative choices?

Yes. Access, documentation and care requirements belong in the design.
