The price of a basin and mixer is not the cost of a renovated bathroom. For your project in Tunisia, build a budget by work package, then compare proposals describing exactly the same work.

01

Define what will actually change

Separate equipment replacement, surface refurbishment and changes to services. Keeping existing positions may simplify the project, but does not remove the need to assess the existing installation.

Also list what stays: furniture, mirror, heating or finishes. A retained item may need protection, temporary removal or adaptation. Include these operations instead of treating them as free.

02

Separate supply from installation

Ask for one line covering visible products and another for their components: concealed bodies, wastes, connections and necessary fixings. Check what each product reference includes.

Then specify labour, substrate preparation, waterproofing, electrical work, waste removal and cleaning. A lower quotation may simply omit one of these items or leave a quantity undefined.

03

Compare two workable scenarios

Prepare a version meeting essential needs and an alternative including the desired options. Compare the complete additional cost: concealed brassware may also alter the preparation of the wall.

For each choice, note its effect on timing, maintenance and other equipment. Changing a shower tray late may affect the waste or tile layout, beyond its purchase price alone.

04

Keep an identified contingency

Include a separate allowance for possible discoveries after stripping out, with a process for approving extra work. Its size depends on the assessment and the actual uncertainty of the project.

Bring your plans and budget to EDIFIS to prepare the selection. Confirm prices, availability and delivery arrangements when obtaining a quotation; a general price guide cannot replace that consultation.

Before you decide

  1. Define the scope of work.
  2. List the necessary components.
  3. Compare identical quantities.
  4. Identify options and contingencies.

The essentials

Your questions, our guidance.

Is a price per square metre enough?

No. Services, equipment and substrate condition can make two projects with the same floor area very different.

Must everything be selected before obtaining a quotation?

A precise selection improves the quotation. Choices still open should appear as clearly identified assumptions or options.
