Current collections give greater attention to ease of maintenance. Yet the term “rimless” describes only part of the toilet. When comparing a Geberit bowl at EDIFIS, also examine the seat, the external fixings and access to the floor. These details determine the tasks you will repeat every week.
01
Understand the difference inside the bowl
A rimless bowl removes the closed rim that is difficult to clean underneath. Geberit uses the Rimfree name for this design, among others. The surface becomes more accessible, but still needs regular care: effective flushing does not replace cleaning.
Ask to see the inside of the exact model, then consult its documentation. Two rimless bowls can have different geometries and flushing arrangements. Compare how the bowl and cistern work together rather than inferring performance from a single term.
02
Examine the seat and its hinges
A removable seat makes it easier to reach the areas around the fixings. However, check that this feature belongs to the seat actually supplied with the selected reference. A photograph of a slim seat does not confirm its mechanism.
In the showroom, ask for a demonstration of removal and refitting. Check that the action is straightforward and the seat remains stable once locked. Keep the seat reference: a future replacement must match the shape and fixings.
03
Plan external cleaning from the outset
A fully shrouded bowl has more continuous sides; a wall-hung toilet leaves the floor clear. These choices do not remove the room’s constraints. Furniture too close to the WC or a bin wedged behind it can make access awkward despite a well-designed product.
Simulate reaching around the bowl with your hand and cleaning tools. Position the toilet brush and paper holder without obstructing access. An easy-to-maintain installation depends as much on the layout as on the selected ceramic.
04
Choose a routine suited to each surface
Ceramic, the seat and hinges do not necessarily use the same cleaning product. Follow their respective instructions, use non-aggressive accessories and rinse as directed. Avoid leaving concentrated cleaner on metal parts for an arbitrary amount of time.
At EDIFIS, compare the Smyle and Premium options with their exact contents. Confirm the bowl, seat and installation components before ordering. You can then choose a coherent assembly rather than relying only on an “easy to clean” promise.
Before you decide
- Examine the inside of the bowl.
- Check removal of the supplied seat.
- Keep access around and below the WC.
- File the references and care instructions.
The essentials
Your questions, our guidance.
Does rimless mean maintenance-free?
No. This design improves access to the surface, but deposits and dirt still need regular removal.
Will a universal seat always fit?
No. Shape, fixing centres and the fastening system must match the bowl. Check compatibility before replacing it.
