Ceramic relief has an important place in contemporary interiors. Its best position is not determined by light alone. Around basins and showers, splashes, cleaning routines and nearby accessories affect how a wall ages. Here is a way to choose an expressive surface without making maintenance more complicated.
01
Map splashes before choosing the decoration
Mark the basin spout, soap, toothbrushes and shower sprays on an elevation. These small sources of splashes do not all reach the same height. An interior photograph cannot show how exposed your own wall will be.
We suggest placing the deepest relief in an accessible area that receives less direct water. Behind a mirror or on a return wall, it can add character while leaving heavily used surfaces easier to wipe.
02
Distinguish texture, relief and intended use
A lightly structured tile and a deeply fluted decoration have different geometries. Run your hand over the sample and examine recesses, corners and edges. Also check that the exact product is approved for its proposed location.
At EDIFIS, compare Cifre Cerámica, Tagina and Atlas Concorde references with their data sheets. A collection name does not identify a finish on its own. A matt or rough surface alone does not prove suitability for a shower floor.
03
Draw the junctions and leave room to clean
A tap escutcheon installed over relief may need a specific detail. Ask the installer to examine its support, watertightness and relationship to the joints. Avoid deciding these points after the decorative tiles have been bonded.
Check the space between wall and tap, and behind accessories. If a hand cannot reach it, even a smooth tile is difficult to clean. A sample placed beside the tap reveals things that a plan drawing cannot.
04
Try the proposed care routine
Request the care method for the exact reference, then try it on a sample. Examine the result once dry under the proposed lighting. The aim is to understand everyday performance, not subject the surface to aggressive treatment.
For a family or hotel bathroom, involve the person responsible for cleaning. Well-positioned decoration can retain its presence while simplifying the most frequently used surfaces. Record this distribution in the installation documents.
Before you decide
- Identify splash sources.
- Compare relief on samples.
- Check supports for escutcheons and accessories.
- Test access and cleaning methods.
The essentials
Your questions, our guidance.
Should relief be excluded from every bathroom?
No. Its position, geometry and approved intended use determine whether it is appropriate.
Does the same collection name guarantee an identical surface?
No. Compare the exact reference, finish and format.
