Choosing a finish also means choosing how to care for it. A cleaner suitable for tiles may not suit the tap immediately beside them. To preserve appearance, begin by identifying the reference and reading the manufacturer’s instructions.
01
Identify the surface before cleaning
Chrome, black, gold and PVD do not all describe the same thing: some name an appearance, others a treatment. Instructions vary by reference. Keep the care sheet with purchase documents and finish details.
Do not transfer a cleaning recipe between products. THG Paris identifies different degrees of delicacy by finish. A surface may need more protection against scratches even when it resists other stresses well.
02
Use a gentle routine
After use, wiping with a clean soft cloth limits visible marks. Follow the manufacturer’s permitted products and contact times for cleaning. Rinse and dry where instructed.
Do not use a sponge or cloth holding abrasive particles. Clean around the mixer base without forcing seals. Regular measured care is preferable to occasional aggressive stripping.
03
Limescale does not justify every cleaner
When a deposit appears, check which descaler suits the finish. Vinegar and acids are not universal recommendations for black or gold taps or decorative parts. A method common elsewhere in the home may be unsuitable here.
Avoid mixing products too. If deposits resist or the surface changes, stop experimenting and seek advice with a photograph. Repeated random treatment can make the original cause harder to identify.
04
Distinguish routine care from a fault
A surface mark, irregular flow and a leak are different issues. Where aerator cleaning is intended, follow instructions and protect internal parts. Do not dismantle a mechanism without knowing the procedure.
For an EDIFIS enquiry, collect the reference, purchase date, clear description and photographs. Also list cleaners already used. This information guides assessment and avoids unnecessary experiments on the finish.
Before you decide
- Find the exact reference’s care instructions.
- Use a clean soft cloth.
- Respect products and contact times.
- Document faults before intervention.
The essentials
Your questions, our guidance.
Can vinegar be used on every tap?
No. Explicitly check compatibility in the finish’s care instructions.
Does a PVD finish need no precautions?
It still needs appropriate care. The process does not remove the need to follow product-specific instructions.
