Electric, hot-water or dual-fuel towel radiator: how should it work?

Compare three towel radiator operating types using your heating system, seasonal needs and the equipment required in the bathroom.

The same towel radiator design can be offered with different operating types. The choice affects heat availability, connections and controls. Before deciding on width or finish, describe what you expect in winter and when central heating is switched off.

01

Hot water: linked to the heating network

A water-fed model receives heat from the heating circuit. Its operation therefore depends on that installation and its schedule. Confirm the water temperatures and available output under those conditions before comparing references.

Also ask how the bathroom will be heated outside the network’s operating periods. Wanting warm towels between seasons should be stated at the outset: choosing a finish cannot solve that requirement.

02

Electric: a supply to be checked

An electric towel radiator can work independently of the central heating circuit. It needs a suitable electrical installation and a position approved by a professional. Free wall space alone does not confirm suitability.

Compare actual controls: scheduling, temporary operation and accessible settings. Functions vary by reference. Request a demonstration or the proposed control’s instructions, especially for a home used by several people.

03

Dual fuel: a manufacturer-defined configuration

Dual-fuel operation combines central heating with an electric device in a documented solution. It can serve needs outside the heating season. Zehnder lists this category separately; it does not mean any heating element fits any radiator.

Confirm the compatible assembly, included components and items to add. The installer should explain switching between modes according to the instructions. Avoid improvised conversion of an existing appliance.

04

Compare a complete offer

Distinguish water-side output, electrical characteristics and control functions where present. Two similar-looking models can differ in these respects. Compare necessary accessories and connection work too.

For your Tunisian project, prepare an EDIFIS selection around services and use. Available versions need confirmation. Keep the full reference in the file so installation and maintenance concern the correct configuration.

Before you decide

  1. Describe summer and winter use.
  2. Identify available services.
  3. Confirm the complete configuration.
  4. Obtain operating instructions.

The essentials

Your questions, our guidance.

Does a dual-fuel model behave like two independent appliances?

Use depends on the assembly and manufacturer’s instructions. Have permitted modes explained during commissioning.

Can photographs distinguish every version?

No. Consult the complete reference, technical sheet and included components.
