Replacing a radiator: distinguish height, centres and connections.

Before replacing a radiator, record pipe centres, fittings and complete dimensions to avoid unexpected adaptations during installation.

A radiator with the same apparent height will not necessarily fit existing pipes. Preparing a replacement means distinguishing body dimensions, connection centres and the space occupied by accessories. These measurements allow solutions to be compared before the old appliance is removed.

01

Measure centres rather than edges

The centre distance is measured between connection axes. Overall height includes the radiator body beyond those axes. Fondital technical sheets distinguish these dimensions: do not substitute one for the other in a quotation request.

Ask for measurements of existing pipe positions relative to finished floor level and the wall. Photograph the installation from the front and side with valves visible. An isolated measurement without a reference point can be misread.

02

Identify the connection arrangement

Record which sides receive the pipes and where the controls sit. Have the installer identify fittings and circuit type. Matching outside diameters alone does not confirm that parts will connect.

Accessories can change total width or distance from the wall. Check that the quotation includes them, and do not assume that existing valves can automatically be reused with the new reference.

03

Examine the wall and obstacles

Mark the proposed appliance’s footprint on a photograph or elevation. Include shelf, curtain, skirting, door and furniture. Have the support and necessary fixings checked, especially when weight or shape changes.

The position must respect the selected product’s instructions. A visually smaller model may require different clearances. Useful dimensions also include access to controls and maintenance operations.

04

Confirm output at the same time

Keeping the same dimensions does not guarantee the same output. Have the replacement checked against the installation’s water temperatures and the room’s heat demand. This remains necessary even when connections look identical.

Send EDIFIS the measurements, photographs and proposed reference. Ask for any adaptations to appear separately. The order should specify appliance, accessories and work so that everyone is working to the same solution.

Before you decide

  1. Separate overall height from centre distance.
  2. Identify every connection.
  3. Include accessories in dimensions.
  4. Validate output and support.

The essentials

Your questions, our guidance.

Does the same centre distance mean a direct replacement?

No. Fittings, depth, accessories, fixings and output still need checking.

Must the radiator be removed before requesting a quote?

An initial file can use photographs and professional measurements. Further checks depend on the installation.
