A useful heating programme reflects life in the home. It is not a standard timetable copied onto every appliance. Before setting radiators, observe occupancy, identify available controls and plan a simple way to assess the result with the people living there.
01
Write down a representative week
Separate working days, weekends and regular absences. Record when each room is actually used. An office empty during the day and a living room occupied in the evening may need different periods, even within the same home.
Identify frequent exceptions: remote working, guests or changing shifts. An overly detailed schedule is difficult to maintain. Start with a few understandable periods and keep a clear method for temporary adjustments.
02
Identify the exact control
Photograph the control face and record the radiator reference. HJM tutorials distinguish several electronic controls and model lists. The right video matches your control, not just an appliance of the same brand.
Check the functions described in the instructions: clock, programmes, modes and any external control. Do not assume connectivity, detection or remote access is included. Each advertised function must match the installed equipment.
03
Avoid conflicting settings
Where several controls are fitted, have the installer explain each role. A central thermostat, local control and external schedule do not always act as three independent adjustments. Identify what actually controls heat demand.
Keep a simple sheet showing the active programme and how to return to normal operation after an override. This is particularly useful in rentals or shared homes where several people change settings.
04
Observe, then adjust
After a representative period, gather observations: a cold room on arrival, heating maintained during absence or a programme cancelled by mistake. Adjust timings systematically instead of changing several parameters every day.
Programming replaces neither correct sizing nor diagnosis of faulty equipment. If comfort remains inadequate, have the installation examined. EDIFIS can help find documentation for offered references; always confirm functions against the exact model.
Before you decide
- Record actual times for each room.
- Find the control instructions.
- Clarify each thermostat’s role.
- Check the programme in use.
The essentials
Your questions, our guidance.
Does a programme guarantee specific savings?
No. Results depend on the building, habits, settings and installation, among other factors.
Can I follow any tutorial from the brand?
No. Choose the one matching your appliance’s control and reference.
