Does the water land in the right place in your sink?

Spout reach, drilling position and bowl geometry: check kitchen tap comfort before choosing its height.

A tall mixer looks convenient for large containers, but height does not tell you where the water reaches the sink. Spout reach and drilling position directly affect the action. To create a comfortable water point, draw the stream and bowl together before letting the tap’s silhouette guide your choice.

01

Distinguish height, reach and overall size

Height describes a vertical dimension; reach expresses the spout’s projection from its axis. Those measurements answer different questions. Also check overall size, which may include a curve or upper part unrelated to the water outlet.

Identify the outlet and intended stream direction on the technical drawing. Do not infer water position from a front photograph. Two similar-looking mixers may create different arrangements over the same sink.

02

Position the hole around the actual bowl

A tap on the sink ledge is not the same distance from the bowl as one behind it on the worktop. Include rims, junction thickness and the bowl’s internal shape in the drawing. Nominal depth alone is insufficient.

For an undermount sink, confirm drilling after approving the bowl template. Keep room for fixings below the worktop and check specified distances. Moving the tap in an aesthetic drawing may create an installation problem.

03

Simulate actions and rotation

Place a large pan and your hands in the working area. Check that the stream reaches a useful zone and the handle remains accessible. There is no universal landing point to impose on every bowl shape and every use.

With two bowls, test the permitted swivel positions. A pull-out spray adds flexibility but should not constantly compensate for a poorly planned layout. Fixed-position use should also be comfortable for brief tasks.

04

Check the result before manufacture

A full-size spout and bowl template helps visualise volumes. During an EDIFIS visit, bring together the exact sink and hansgrohe or Deante mixer references. Ask for the technical drawings matching the intended configuration.

After installation, have operation and any splashing checked under normal use. Container shape and flow setting also influence splashes. Avoid changing the layout without first identifying the cause of the inconvenience.

Before you decide

  1. Read height and reach separately.
  2. Draw the hole relative to the bowl.
  3. Test container, hands and rotation.
  4. Approve the section before worktop manufacture.

The essentials

Your questions, our guidance.

Is a taller tap always more comfortable?

No. Reach, landing point, bowl and actions also matter. Excessive height may add nothing to your use.

Does a pull-out spray replace checking the fixed spout?

No. It expands possibilities, but everyday fixed-position use still needs proper planning.
