Dough on fingers, a bowl in your hands or a wet sponge: kitchen work puts tap controls to the test. Current fittings offer different ways to operate water. A good choice depends less on the number of functions than on understanding and performing the action when you are genuinely occupied.

01

Test handling before choosing the finish

Operate the lever with your right hand, then your left. Observe reach, required effort and clearance around the handle. An elegant control can become awkward beside a backsplash or behind a large container.

Involve the people who normally use the kitchen. A tall adult, a child and someone with reduced mobility do not move identically. A test does not replace an accessibility study, but helps identify an unnecessarily restrictive layout.

02

Understand what the button does

With hansgrohe, Select may start or pause water, or change spray mode, depending on the reference. Those functions are not interchangeable. On certain Metris Select M71 models, the lever opens the water and the button then pauses and restarts it.

Ask for a demonstration of the precise model. Check where temperature and flow are adjusted and what happens after a pause. Clearly presenting the controls avoids selecting equipment for a function it does not possess.

03

Make use easier without confusing comfort with hygiene

The manufacturer states that a suitable Select button can be operated with the back of the hand or arm. This may reduce marks during preparation. It does not make the tap maintenance-free and is not disinfection.

Clean contact surfaces using products approved for their finish. Keep sponges and dirty utensils separate from ready-to-eat food. Simple operation complements good organisation; it does not replace it.

04

Coordinate the control with the sink

Check access with a colander or board fitted over the bowl. With a pull-out spray, try the control both extended and retracted. Ergonomics should remain convincing for short actions and for washing a large dish.

EDIFIS presents hansgrohe Metris Select mixers alongside other single-lever solutions. Compare configurations against your kitchen plan and household habits. Record the exact reference, button function and included components so the order matches the demonstration.

Before you decide

  1. Test the lever with both hands.
  2. Check each button’s exact function.
  3. Check access with accessories fitted.
  4. Plan cleaning of contact surfaces.

The essentials

Your questions, our guidance.

Do all Select buttons stop the water?

No. Depending on the product, Select controls flow or selects a spray. Consult the exact reference’s specification and demonstration.

Does a mechanical button require a power socket?

The Select technology described by hansgrohe operates mechanically. Still check the complete assembly’s needs if other functions are added.
