Kitchen

Open kitchens: consider the sound of the sink too.

Bowl, fixings, stream and storage: examine ways to limit water-point noise in a kitchen open to the living room.

In an open kitchen, water-point noise is shared with the living room. Water striking the bowl, cutlery being placed down and a loose fitting do not produce the same sound. To improve comfort, identify those sources and examine the complete installation rather than choosing a material based on a general promise of silence.

01

Identify the moments that disturb you

Observe whether the concern mainly comes from the stream, dishes hitting the bowl or cabinet vibration. A conversation beside an island and a meal in a distant room experience noise differently. Note the situations that actually matter to the household.

During renovation, describe those situations to the kitchen specialist. A change of material may alter perception, but does not automatically correct a poorly secured tap, vibrating accessory or installation transmitting sound to furniture.

02

Look at bowl construction

Stainless steel can be combined with damping elements. hansgrohe states that the S41 range includes matting intended to reduce water noise. Check that feature in the exact reference’s documentation and preserve it during installation.

Do not remove an element beneath the bowl to gain a few millimetres of storage without manufacturer advice. Compare included equipment and complete construction. Without comparable measurements, avoid turning a sales argument into a numerical ranking of sinks.

03

Pay attention to mounting and contacts

The installer must follow the specified fixings, joints and supports. Check whether a pipe, accessory or storage unit touches a panel in a way that vibrates during use. Moving components beneath the worktop also deserve inspection.

Improvised changes such as unapproved foam or adhesive can complicate maintenance. Address the cause using a solution consistent with the instructions. The water point must remain accessible and suitably ventilated for its arrangement.

04

Adapt actions and check the result

Adjust flow to the task and direct the spray without needlessly striking a wall or object. Place utensils down instead of dropping them. These simple actions complement sink design rather than expecting a material to compensate for every use.

At EDIFIS, examine hansgrohe stainless steel options and Deante composite sinks alongside your open-kitchen plan. Confirm available characteristics for each reference. At handover, listen from the living room and request a check if an unusual vibration remains.

Before you decide

  1. Identify stream, impacts and vibration separately.
  2. Check documented acoustic components.
  3. Follow specified fixings and supports.
  4. Listen from the living room.

The essentials

Your questions, our guidance.

Does a damped sink become silent?

No. It may reduce some sounds, but the stream, dishes, installation and room still affect the result.

Can you compare sinks by tapping their bowls in a showroom?

That isolated action does not reproduce installation or normal use. Compare documented construction and, where possible, representative trials.
