Colander, board, basket: put the space above the sink to work.

Organise a small kitchen with suitable sink accessories: compatibility, stability, cleaning and storage after use.

The sink increasingly acts as a preparation station for rinsing, draining and handling food. A suitable colander or board can free the neighbouring worktop. For those accessories to remain useful, start with your actions and the bowl’s actual geometry rather than accumulating options.

01

Match an accessory to a task

Start with what clutters the worktop: rinsed vegetables, glasses to drain, a sponge or wet board. Choose an accessory that solves that particular problem. A suspended colander can let water drain into the bowl; a basket does not necessarily perform the same function.

Consider the food’s route. Preparation should remain separate from dirty utensils. An accessory resting on the sink must be cleaned before food contact, even if its position seems naturally clean or convenient.

02

Check supports and compatibility

Overall sink width is not enough to select a board or colander. Measure the shape and distance between supports, corner radii and any support ledge. Check the accessory reference specified for the model.

Avoid adaptations that slide or rest against the tap. Try usual actions with a realistic load without exceeding the manufacturer’s instructions. The accessory should remain stable when wet and be easy to remove.

03

Keep water and controls accessible

A board covering the whole bowl may obstruct the spout, waste control or access to water. Draw the accessory in working and resting positions. Check that you can still fill a container and turn off the tap without moving it at every step.

With a pull-out spray, check hose clearance and return to the spout. A tall colander or thick board can change the available space beneath the stream. Check the complete arrangement in three dimensions, not just from above.

04

Plan cleaning and storage

Choose a storage position where the accessory can dry as directed. Something useful for ten minutes becomes clutter if it always stays over the bowl. Also check the permitted cleaning method; dishwasher suitability must not be assumed.

hansgrohe kitchen equipment and accessories associated with Deante sinks offer options to compare at EDIFIS. Ask for the exact list of included and optional items. A setting photograph may show an accessory sold separately or intended for another model.

Before you decide

  1. Start with a task that clutters the worktop.
  2. Check supports and compatible reference.
  3. Test access to the tap and waste.
  4. Plan drying and storage.

The essentials

Your questions, our guidance.

Does a universal colander fit every sink?

No. Supports, corners and usable dimensions vary. Confirm stability on the selected sink.

Are accessories shown in a photograph included?

Not necessarily. Ask for the reference’s contents and the list of optional items.
