A bathroom schedule depends as much on decisions as on tradespeople. Equipment selected too late can force changes to an opening or service provision. Adapt this coordination framework with the contractors responsible for your project.
01
Approve choices that determine service provisions
Before stripping out, bring together dimensioned plans, product references and existing constraints. Identify choices determining connections: WC, shower waste, wall-mounted brassware and lighting.
Confirm supply lead times and technical dimensions. An estimated delivery date should not become a firm date in the schedule without confirmation from both supplier and contractor.
02
Arrange checks before closing up
After stripping out, have the newly exposed substrates and services assessed. If the design changes, circulate a revised drawing to everyone involved and remove the old version from the site.
Before closing a wall, arrange professional checks of connections, fixings and service provisions. Photograph technical areas with identifying marks, then retain the documents useful for future maintenance.
03
Respect dependencies between trades
Substrate preparation, waterproofing and finishes must follow the instructions for the selected systems. Drying or curing times cannot be inferred from a planned handover date.
Coordinate finished thicknesses, falls, holes and maintenance access before tiling. Concealed brassware must reach its intended depth after all layers are complete, not just after masonry work.
04
Allow a proper finishing stage
Schedule installation of visible parts, adjustments and operating checks after work likely to damage them. Also arrange protection of surfaces during the remaining interventions.
Finish with a joint inspection, a list of outstanding points and delivery of the manuals. The schedule needs time for corrections, suitable cleaning and an explanation of the controls.
Before you decide
- Confirm technical product references.
- Share the latest approved drawing.
- Check before closing up.
- Allow time for adjustments.
The essentials
Your questions, our guidance.
Is there a standard project duration?
No. It depends on scope, substrates, supplies and access constraints. The contractor should establish an appropriate schedule.
Can equipment be ordered at the end of the project?
Some accessories can wait; equipment determining openings and service provisions must be defined much earlier.
