In an open kitchen, the water point is often visible from the living room. Sink, tap, waste and backsplash therefore form a small composition in their own right. For a coherent result, consider them together before selecting each finish separately.

01

Decide which element should stand out

A sink close to the worktop colour can remain discreet and let the tap draw a silhouette. A contrasting sink becomes a focal point itself. Define this hierarchy from the main kitchen view, alongside furniture and backsplash.

In a light palette, a beige sink can soften transitions. Visible stainless steel introduces a stronger metallic presence. Neither choice automatically determines tap colour: harmony can rely on contrast as well as similarity.

02

Connect metals without seeking impossible identity

The tap, waste and appliances do not always share the same finish. You can choose a dominant metal around the water point and keep other equipment in a more neutral family. What matters is that differences appear deliberate.

Compare brushed shades by their grain and reflections, not just their commercial name. If the waste is very visible in a light bowl, include it on the sample board before approval; this small detail may change the water point’s balance.

03

Check proportions and movement

Tap height should relate to the bowl, window and wall cabinets. Check spout rotation and handle movement in front of the backsplash. A composition that looks elegant on plan may interfere with opening a window or handling a large pan.

For a pull-out mixer, allow the space required beneath the worktop according to its instructions. Storage, trap and recycling accessories should be coordinated with this equipment rather than added afterwards.

04

Choose the backsplash as a background

A veined surface can make a strong background behind a simple sink. Small glossy tiles introduce more rhythm and reflections. Check that the tap remains legible against this background and its lines do not disappear into the pattern.

For an EDIFIS selection, compare the chosen sink, tap, worktop and backsplash sample at the same appointment. Then confirm dimensions, installation and waste references to turn the idea into a complete assembly.

Before you decide

  1. Choose the water point’s main element.
  2. Include the waste in the palette.
  3. Check tap and window movement.
  4. Coordinate under-sink storage.

The essentials

Your questions, our guidance.

Must a beige sink have a beige tap?

No. A light, dark or warm metal can create a convincing combination. Compare it with worktop and backsplash.

Are all sink accessories universal?

No. Dimensions, mounting and connections need checking for the references concerned, particularly wastes and integrated accessories.
