Tiling may be finished while the rest of the site remains active. Tools, dust and movement by other trades create a sensitive period before final handover. Agree on protection with the installer and maintain it until work is complete, rather than only on installation day.
01
Respect the reopening time
Ask the installer when foot traffic and loads are permitted for the installed system. Waiting periods depend on the products and site conditions, not on a surface that merely looks dry.
Schedule furniture deliveries and equipment movements accordingly. If early access is essential, have the trades agree a solution rather than treating the floor as immediately available.
02
Choose appropriate protection
Protection must suit the finish, remaining works and installation guidance. Confirm the material and how it will be secured: adhesive directly on a delicate surface may leave marks.
Remove particles before covering. Grains trapped beneath a moving protective layer can rub against the finish. Protection therefore does not remove the need to check regularly underneath.
03
Organise other trades’ activities
Define access routes and preparation areas. Decide where tools and materials can be placed without using the finished floor as a workbench. Protect exposed corners and thresholds against knocks too.
Avoid sliding furniture and check wheeled equipment before bringing it inside. Report any dirt or water beneath the protection to the site manager so it can be addressed appropriately.
04
Plan handover cleaning
Separate post-construction cleaning from everyday care. The first removes building residues; the method must follow the covering and installation-product instructions, with an appropriate preliminary test.
Remove protection at the agreed time, inspect surfaces and record any issues. Keep maintenance instructions with the reference of the tiles supplied by EDIFIS for the people using the premises.
Before you decide
- Approve access times.
- Adapt the protection.
- Keep routes clean.
- Prepare the handover.
The essentials
Your questions, our guidance.
Can the floor be covered immediately after tiling?
Ask the installer to confirm according to the system and its drying requirements.
Does a sheet protect against every risk?
No. Protection must address the expected traffic, impacts and dirt.
