Sanitary procurement: order around the actual construction programme.

Organise sanitary orders by phase: concealed components, finishes, approvals and substitutions to reduce missing parts during construction.

Sanitary procurement should follow the construction programme. Hidden components must be identified before walls are closed, while finishing pieces need appropriate receiving and storage arrangements. This method helps establish a shared programme without assuming identical lead times for every product.

01

Separate useful milestones

Group supplies by when they are needed: supporting structures, services and concealed installations, appliances, then finishes. Assign each group a required date confirmed by the contractor.

Distinguish the requested date, the advised date and the confirmed date. A quotation describes an offer; it does not by itself prove that every component will be available together.

02

Think in compatible assemblies

Keep a visible mixer and its concealed body linked in the schedule. Do the same for cistern, flush plate, pan and connections, using documented combinations for the selected products.

Check quantities by room and included components. A set supplied with some accessories should not lead to duplicate orders; a photograph cannot establish the complete package contents.

03

Prepare substitution decisions

Appoint a decision-maker and a deadline for considering alternatives. Compare technical interfaces first, then finish, installation needs and effects on other trades.

Do not authorise replacements through a verbal message alone. Keep the approval, revised code and amended drawing. Request a sample comparison for visible finishes when colour matching matters.

04

Receive and distribute by area

Prepare a check of product codes, quantities and packaging for each delivery. Mark packages by floor or bathroom to simplify distribution without covering original labels.

Keep small components and instructions with their assembly. Organise storage according to manufacturer guidance and site conditions; protect finishing fittings until the appropriate installation stage.

Before you decide

  1. Identify requirements by phase.
  2. Check assemblies and quantities.
  3. Record approved substitutions.
  4. Label packages by room.

The essentials

Your questions, our guidance.

Should everything arrive at once?

That depends on the programme and available storage. A single delivery helps only if every assembly can be checked and stored properly.

Can a different finish be approved quickly?

Only after checking technical and visual consequences and obtaining approval from the person responsible for selection.
