Kitchen

Large dish, small bowl? Read the real dimensions of a sink.

Bowl dimensions, overall dimensions and cabinet width: choose a sink suited to large dishes and everyday tasks.

A sink advertised as wide may offer a fairly compact bowl if the drainer occupies a substantial part of the unit. Conversely, a well-sized single bowl can be useful for oven trays. When comparing products, always separate the external footprint from the space you can actually use.

01

Read each dimension against its reference

Identify overall width and length, the internal dimensions of each bowl, depth and minimum cabinet width on the drawing. These describe different things. A dimension associated with the bowl must not be reused as the size of the complete sink.

This is especially useful for sinks with drainers or multiple bowls. hansgrohe and Deante provide drawings to compare with the kitchen plan. Request the document for the exact model: two products in the same family may have different footprints.

02

Test the items you actually wash

Measure your most-used oven dish, baking tray and saucepan. Trace their outlines on paper representing the bowl bottom. The aim is not necessarily to immerse them completely, but to tilt and rinse them without awkward movements.

Corner shapes and sloping sides can reduce the flat area at the bottom. Consider the spout too: its reach and spray should cover the useful zone. A pull-out spray helps with some movements, but it does not turn a small bowl into a large washing space.

03

Find the right depth

A deep bowl can hold bulky objects and keep dishes less visible. It also places the bottom further from your hands. Test the movement considering worktop height and your posture, rather than automatically choosing the greatest depth.

Inside the cabinet, check space for the waste fitting and storage. Extra depth changes the room available for the trap, drawers or bins. A generous cabinet frontage does not guarantee that everything will fit behind it.

04

Compare complete configurations

Compare a single bowl, two bowls and a bowl with drainer within the same overall footprint. Ask which arrangement helps your daily cooking. The dishwasher, frequency of large meals and available landing space all influence the answer.

Bring your plan and utensil measurements to EDIFIS to compare Deante, Bluestone or hansgrohe sinks. Then verify the dimensions on the manufacturer’s sheet before cutting. Keep it with the final selection to prevent confusion in the specification.

Before you decide

  1. Separate bowl size from external footprint.
  2. Measure large utensils.
  3. Compare depth and posture.
  4. Check the cabinet and waste fitting.

The essentials

Your questions, our guidance.

Does a bowl dimension include the drainer?

No. The drainer belongs to the overall unit; consult both sets of dimensions.

Are two bowls always more practical than one?

No. Two bowls separate tasks, but one large bowl may accommodate big dishes better.
