Placing the sink in front of a window provides a pleasant view during meal preparation. The difficulty appears when the opening sash hits the tap or its handle becomes hard to reach. Before choosing a spout shape, test the complete geometry: window, worktop, bowl and controls.
01
Trace the window’s movement
Measure the bottom of the opening sash relative to the finished worktop. Draw its opening arc, hinge positions and handle. For windows with several opening modes, check every movement actually used, rather than only the slightly open position.
Add the tap to this section using its total height. Water-outlet height alone is insufficient for checking a collision. Also include the soap dispenser and items usually left on the sink ledge: they may obstruct the window even with a suitable spout.
02
Examine control movement
A lever may need to move backwards, sideways or upwards. Compare that movement with the splashback, frame and sill. Users must be able to adjust flow and temperature without hitting the wall or adopting an awkward position.
Do not assume that every version in a collection shares the same control. Ask for the drawing of the model offered by EDIFIS. The tap’s position on the sink or worktop must also leave enough space for installation and cleaning.
03
Identify purpose-designed solutions
hansgrohe presents specific window-installation versions whose bodies can be removed from their supports and laid down. This feature concerns identified models. It is not a property of every tap with a swivelling spout or pull-out spray.
Before choosing this option, check the remaining base height, space to lay the tap down and hose freedom. Ask EDIFIS to confirm the available model and its operation. If no solution fits, discuss moving the sink workstation with the designer.
04
Make a full-scale trial
A cardboard template placed on the future worktop helps reveal a clash before ordering. Open the window fully and reproduce the hand movement on the control. This simple test complements the dimensions; it does not replace installation instructions.
Finally, check access for cleaning the glass and sill. The choice should remain practical every week, rather than only during a demonstration. Keep the approved drawing with the model reference and have the complete arrangement checked during installation.
Before you decide
- Measure the sash from the finished worktop.
- Trace the handle movement.
- Identify any dedicated window version.
- Test opening with a template.
The essentials
Your questions, our guidance.
Is a swivelling spout enough to open the window?
Not always. It may rotate without reducing the tap’s height. Check the space swept by the sash.
Can every hansgrohe tap be laid down?
No. This function exists on particular models and must be confirmed in their documentation.
