Choosing round or angular buttons affects a WC plate’s character even when its surface is small. With Sigma20, that comparison helps connect sanitaryware curves and wall-finish lines. The model’s designation also needs to be correctly identified.
01
Understand the current designation
In Geberit nomenclature presented from 2025, Sigma20 square corresponds to the former Sigma30 designation. You may encounter both names in catalogues and searches. The article reference remains the most precise way to identify the product.
Do not order from a name alone or an old photograph. Record shape, colour, stated material and reference number. That method avoids confusing a family, variant and product generation.
02
Use round buttons as a counterpoint
Round buttons can recall a basin, mirror or curved tap. They can also soften a strongly rectilinear wall. Repetition works better when restrained: not every object needs exactly the same shape.
On a small-tile grid, circles become a graphic accent. Position the plate with joints and enclosure edges in mind. Soft geometry may look disordered if it cuts across the grid without intention.
03
Extend lines with an angular version
An angular version can relate to flat-fronted furniture, a rectangular niche or a regular tile layout. It adds another reference to the wall’s lines. Compare its axis with the WC and any shelf.
An entirely straight-lined composition may still benefit from a curve in the basin or tap. Coherence does not come only from repetition; it can also arise from balanced contrast between two families of shapes.
04
Choose the finish after the geometry
Once the shape is selected, compare a discreet option with a stronger contrast. The first approaches the wall tone; the second repeats the water point’s metal. Assess button reflection and background reflection together.
Then confirm compatibility with the relevant Sigma cistern and mounting configuration. Visible dimensions or resemblance to another plate are insufficient. In renovation, identify the existing cistern before selecting the decoration.
Before you decide
- Identify the product by reference.
- Compare round and angular in elevation.
- Examine joints around the plate.
- Approve finish and compatible cistern.
The essentials
Your questions, our guidance.
Do Sigma20 square and Sigma30 always mean two separate ranges?
Geberit nomenclature identifies Sigma20 square as formerly Sigma30. For purchase or replacement, check the exact reference and relevant documentation.
Do round buttons require a round basin?
No. They can also counterpoint straight lines. Overall wall balance matters more than repeating every shape.
