Receiving tiles: what to check before installation.

Check the order, boxes, references and tile condition on delivery. A documented inspection helps resolve differences before work begins on site.

Delivery is the time to compare the approved order with what actually reaches the site. Raising a case after installation makes an issue visible at delivery harder to identify. Agree on a simple process with the person receiving the goods and the tile installer.

01

Prepare the comparison documents

Keep the approved order, reference list and intended room allocation. Check the address and access conditions before arrival, then arrange a suitable space for the packages.

At delivery, compare stated quantities with received boxes. Distinguish packages, pieces and areas: these units are not interchangeable. Report any difference promptly to your contact.

02

Read labels before distributing boxes

Compare reference, size, finish and any shade or calibre information on the packaging. Photograph the labels and connect them to the relevant project area.

Do not distribute differently labelled boxes on the assumption they will mix without consequences. Request clarification before installation, especially where a continuous surface uses several deliveries.

03

Inspect condition systematically

Photograph damaged packaging and affected items with both wide and close views. Have the installer check the material before laying; normal decorative variation must be distinguished from a suspected defect.

If there is doubt, set the affected pieces aside and send references, quantities and photographs. Wait for guidance before cutting or installing them, and keep packaging useful for identification.

04

Arrange storage and follow-up

Follow handling and storage instructions on the packaging. Avoid impacts, unnecessary movement and mixing that breaks the link between a tile and its label.

Keep a dated delivery record and correspondence with EDIFIS. These help track differences and possible additional deliveries without promising timing or coverage before the situation has been assessed.

Before you decide

  1. Compare with the order.
  2. Photograph labels.
  3. Set doubtful pieces aside.
  4. Keep the follow-up record.

The essentials

Your questions, our guidance.

Should I wait until installation to inspect tiles?

No. Check the delivery, then have the material examined before it is installed.

Are boxes from the same collection identical?

Also check reference, size, finish and any batch information provided.
